The old clock lay broken
In a box in the dark
Its gears were all rusty
It was missing some parts
But once it stood proudly
At the top of the hall
Showing clearly the time
Its chimes sounding their call
At six – time to rise!
“Lunch at noon,” mother said.
At seven – we eat dinner
At nine – off to bed
Year after year
Faithful and true
The clock told the time
It did what clocks do!
Until one sad day
A spring lost its grip
A screw became lose
A gear started to slip
And the hands – they stopped moving
The bells silenced their call
The clock – which told time
Now said nothing at all
So into that box –
What else would you do?
With a clock that is broken
You’d throw it out, too
Year followed year
Until one quite normal day
That clock heard a cry
A man boomed forth to say:
“Ah here it is!”
“My old clock is all right!”
And he wiped off the dust
And brought it into the light
To a master clock builder
The man brought his clock
“Restore and Rebuild –
Regardless of cost!”
“What was lost is now found!”
The man he did say.
“Make it better than new –
Fix it today!”
So out with the old
The broken parts flew
Oiled and polished
The old clock became new
So the clock was again
Hung-up high in the hall
It sang out the hours
And told time to all
Like the clock – you were created
With a purpose so clear
To tell of God’s love
And to live in God’s fear
But if today you are broken
With rust and loose parts
Let Jesus restore
And provide a fresh start
From the dark to the light
I hope you now see
God will help you become
What you were created to be
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away;
behold, new things have come. – 2 Corinthians 5:17
